On January 31, 2020, the Trump administration announced via Presidential Proclamation that, effective February 21, 2020 at 12:01 am eastern standard time, the travel ban will now apply to nationals from Burma (Myanmar), Eritrea, Kyrgyzstan, Nigeria, Sudan, and Tanzania.
As with the prior travel ban, today’s expansion suspends entry by preventing visa issuance to citizens and nationals of the six listed countries. Specifically, citizens and nationals of Burma (Myanmar), Eritrea, Kyrgyzstan, and Nigeria may not be issued immigrant visas unless their eligibility is based on having provided assistance to the United States Government. Citizens and nationals of Sudan and Tanzania are no longer eligible to be issued visas as Diversity Immigrants (also known as the “green card lottery”). The expansion does not alter eligibility for nonimmigrant (temporary) visas for citizens and nationals of the affected countries.
The full list of countries as of February 21, 2020 includes: Burma (Myanmar), Eritrea, Iran, Kyrgyzstan, Libya, Nigeria, North Korea, Somalia, Sudan, Syria, Tanzania, Venezuela, and Yemen.
